Monday, Jul 08, 2013 12:42 PM PDT
By Brent Lang LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Guillermo del Toro's monsters-vs.-giant-robots opus "Pacific Rim" hits theaters Friday, and the early buzz is that it's a visually sumptuous fantasy from the Mexican moviemaker. Critics have largely praised the film as an indulgent but nonetheless tasty piece of popcorn entertainment - although a few have groused that it is a soulless enterprise unworthy of the director behind such visionary and dark spectacles as "Pan's Labyrinth. ...

Monday, Jul 08, 2013 10:53 AM PDT
By Tim Molloy NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - A new unscripted We TV series will follow R&B trio Sisters With Voices - perhaps better known as SWV - as the group makes a comeback attempt. Six one-hour episodes of "SWV - Sisters With Voices" will air in early 2014. Of course, one could say that the group has already made a successful comeback by landing a reality show, but why quibble? "The journey of SWV is the kind of real and personal comeback story our viewers love to see," said Lauren Gellert, WE TV's senior vice president of original production and development. ...

Monday, Jul 08, 2013 10:50 AM PDT
By Alonso Duralde LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - I would rather have one Chewbacca than an entire clone army." That's how director Angela Robinson reacted when suits at Disney suggested that her film "Herbie: Fully Loaded" feature a computer-generated VW Beetle in the title role rather than a nuts-and-bolts car. Would that Guillermo del Toro had had the same attitude regarding 'Pacific Rim," his new big-budget take on giant robots (here known as "jaegers," German for "hunters") versus giant monsters (which, as any Comic-Con all-access pass-holder can tell you, are known in Japanese as "kaiju"). ...
