U.S. government warns of hack threat to network gear

BOSTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security urged computer users on Tuesday to disable a common networking technology feature, after researchers warned that hackers could exploit flaws to gain access to tens of millions of vulnerable devices. The U.S. government's Computer Emergency Readiness Team advised consumers and businesses to disable a feature known as Universal Plug and Play or UPnP, and some other related features that make devices from computers to printers accessible over the open Internet. ...

Investor urges IGT to rethink online gaming move

Apple announces iPad with double storage capacity

Customers visit the Apple store on 5th Avenue in New York(Reuters) - Apple Inc said on Tuesday that it will sell a version of its iPad tablet computer with 128 gigabytes of storage, which is twice the capacity of its existing models. Apple, which has sold more than 120 million iPads so far, said that the new iPad will go on sale February 5, in black or white, for a suggested retail price of $799 for the iPad with just Wi-Fi model, and $929 for the version that also has a cellular wireless connection. Nokia invests $250 million in venture funding

It would be the third fund for Nokia Growth Partners, Nokia's global venture firm which invests in mobile hardware and component companies as well as digital advertising startups. Yahoo sees revenue climb this year, but long road ahead

Pervasive Software to be acquired by Actian for $161.9 million

(Reuters) - Pervasive Software Inc said it had agreed to be acquired by Actian Corp, after the privately held big data management company raised its earlier offer by about 8 percent to $161.9 million. Actian will offer $9.20 in cash to Pervasive shareholders for each Pervasive share. The offer price represents a premium of 2 percent to Pervasive's closing price of $9.05 on Monday on the Nasdaq. Actian, headquartered in California, had raised its bid for Texas-based Pervasive twice. It initially offered $8.50 per share last August, and increased the price to $9.00 in November. ...

Yahoo revenue rises on search advertising

VMware disappoints with 2013 outlook, to cut jobs

(Reuters) - Software maker VMware Inc said on Monday it was cutting 900 jobs as part of a restructuring plan, and it gave a disappointing outlook for 2013. Its shares fell 13 percent in after-hours trade. VMware, a publicly traded division of data storage equipment maker EMC Corp, said in a filing that "to enable the company to focus its business on strategic areas" it planned "to streamline its operations." VMware did not elaborate in the filing but said it expected to complete the move by the end of the year and that it would take a charge of $90 million to $110 million. ...

U.S. warns Antigua against "government-authorized piracy"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States warned Antigua and Barbuda on Monday not to retaliate against U.S. restrictions on Internet gambling by suspending American copyrights or patents, a move it said would authorize the "theft" of intellectual property like movies and music. "The United States has urged Antigua to consider solutions that would benefit its broader economy. However, Antigua has repeatedly stymied these negotiations with certain unrealistic demands," said Nkenge Harmon, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Trade Representative's office. ...
