The partying can wait for determined Vettel Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 12:33 PM PDT By Alan Baldwin ABU DHABI (Reuters) - James Hunt would doubtless have done it differently but Sebastian Vettel's idea of bliss after winning the Formula One championship for the fourth year in a row was a few quiet days at home. The partying can wait for Red Bull's 26-year-old German, the sport's youngest quadruple champion, who still has unfinished business this season with three races yet to be won. "We want to race, race the others as hard as possible," he told reporters at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where he is chasing a seventh successive win to equal compatriot Michael Schumacher's 2004 seven in a row. "If we have a chance, we want to win." No other driver in the modern era has won seven times consecutively, with Italian Alberto Ascari setting the record of nine in 1952/53. Full Story | Top |
U.S. attorney opens review of Georgia teen's wrestling mat death Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 12:33 PM PDT By David Beasley ATLANTA (Reuters) - A federal prosecutor launched a formal review on Thursday to determine if the death of a Georgia teenager found in a rolled-up wrestling mat in his school gym in January warrants a criminal investigation. An official autopsy concluded that the suffocation of Kendrick Johnson, 17, was accidental, but the teen's parents have called for a further probe because they suspect foul play. "I am convinced that sufficient basis exists for my office to conduct a formal review of the facts and investigations surrounding the death of Kendrick Johnson," said Michael Moore, the U.S. attorney for Georgia's Middle District. He said he would ask the FBI to open a civil rights or any other appropriate criminal investigation, should his review find that sufficient evidence exists to proceed. Full Story | Top |

Celtics rebuild highlights sports' shifting fortunes Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 11:18 AM PDT By Steve Keating TORONTO (Reuters) - While the Boston Red Sox were putting the finishing touches on a World Series championship on Wednesday, the NBA's Boston Celtics were kicking off a rebuilding phase with a season-opening loss. Few Bostonians were paying much attention to the Celtics' 93-87 road loss to the Toronto Raptors, however, as champagne corks were popping at Fenway Park, a sobering reminder of how suddenly sporting fortunes can change. Indeed, lean times appear to be ahead for a franchise that enjoyed a return to its glory days when All-Stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined Paul Pierce in 2007 before leading the team to six straight playoff appearances, two runs to the NBA Finals and one title.
