SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pleaded not guilty Monday to a dozen felony charges stemming from alleged safety violations in a deadly 2010 natural gas pipeline explosion that leveled a suburban neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Minnesota homeowner goes on trial in teens' deaths

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man on trial for killing two teenagers after they broke into his house had planned the killings, and was lying in wait in his basement with a book, some snacks and two guns, prosecutors said Monday. But a defense attorney countered that his client was terrified after several increasingly violent break-ins and hid after hearing a window break and footsteps upstairs.

Man arrested in kidnapping of North Carolina prosecutor's father

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Reuters) - Federal agents on Monday arrested a man in Pennsylvania wanted in the kidnapping of a North Carolina prosecutor's father, the FBI said. Jakym Tibbs, 20, is among eight people charged with plotting to snatch the prosecutor's father, Frank Janssen, from his home in North Carolina this month and holding him hostage for four days in Atlanta until he was rescued. Janssen's daughter is a Raleigh, North Carolina, prosecutor whose identity has not been disclosed. She helped send Bloods gang member Kelvin Melton, who was also charged in the father's abduction, to prison for life in 2012.

Defense: Man who shot teens 'scared in own home'

R&B singer Chris Brown, who pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna, appears in court in Los AngelesBy Tom Ramstack WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A judge on Monday found the bodyguard of singer Chris Brown guilty of assaulting a man outside a Washington hotel last October in a judgment likely to influence the trial of the R&B artist on the same charge. Brown and his bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, were arrested after both men allegedly punched the man, who was taking a photo without their permission. Brown's trial for misdemeanor assault started on Monday minutes after District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Patricia Wynn announced the guilty verdict for Hollosy. During Hollosy's trial, prosecution witnesses testified that on October 27, 2013 Brown punched 20-year-old Parker Adams, who then raised his hands, they said, in a defensive posture.
